A victim who has first aid sees its chances of survival increase by 20%. Christophe Talmet, delegate national training to the French Red Cross, presents training first aid.

From the age of 10 years, everyone, can prepare the certificate of formation to first aid (AFPS). The Red Cross, which has 3000 monitors, 300 instructors and 900 volunteers training centres or professionals, conducts sessions throughout the year. The training lasts about ten hours. It takes place on a week, often in the evening (five times per week, for example), or well over several weeks…

What is the training program? The training is practical. Essentially volunteer instructors teach ten actions of first aid. They show students who will repeat them in order to integrate them. Situations of accidents are also simulated. For example, the victim bleeds profusely, is unconscious or not breathing… The students to analyse the situation and to rescue the wounded! The AFPS sanctions formation by a certificate, but no review is organized…

Initiations in the first relief also exist. What is it? The French Red Cross initiates any person at the age of eight years to simple gestures which save accident: protection and alert; review of a victim and monitoring; lateral position of security; artificial ventilation and cardiac massage. This free training lasts one hour. These initiations are organised throughout the year, in schools, in the neighbourhoods, on the beaches…

How much does it cost? The formation of the Red Cross price amounts to EUR 60. The intern leaves with a guide of the rescuer, who summarizes the actions learned during the course. This amount serves to finance the equipment (mannequins, masks…) and expenditures for the monitor (travel by car, food…). But the cost of training is lower for people who have no employment…
